Information About Our Study

Our Goals

1) Find out what women already know about life after breast cancer treatment and what they need more information about.

2) Learn about challenges experienced by black women during the change from patient to survivor.

3) Ask for breast cancer survivors’ opinions about existing educational materials (videos, brochures, etc.).

4) Discover how to best deliver educational information to black breast cancer survivors.

Our research study is a collaboration between Massachusetts General Hospital and Boston Medical Center researchers. Our goal is to deliver relevant information about life after breast cancer treatment to black survivors

What We Have Accomplished

  • Collected data via an online survey about black women’s experiences with breast cancer treatment and follow-up care as a survivor.

  • Conducted focus groups with black breast cancer survivors to learn more about their experiences with the transition from active treatment to

  • Provided educational materials and resources to women about what to expect as a breast cancer survivor and follow-up care.

  • Future work includes:

    • Developing education materials about life after breast cancer treatment, tailored to the needs and preferences of black women.

    • Delivering the education materials that we create to black breast cancer survivors and primary care physicians.

    • Translating patient education materials into Haitian Creole and Spanish.
